How it works
How Treatment Works
Every new patient starts with a free 15-minute intro call. Treatment then begins with a comprehensive evaluation and continues in follow-up appointments. Psychotherapy and medication management happen in the same appointment, at a pace that leaves room for both.
Getting Started
- 1Reach out in one of three ways:
- Call 610-227-3888.
- Click Book a free 15-minute intro call to book it yourself in the patient portal.
- Use the contact form.
Tap or click the underlined text above to open each option.
- 2Talk first. Every new patient starts with the intro call. It is a short conversation about what you are looking for, how the practice works, and whether it is a good fit.
- 3Complete your intake. We will send intake forms through the secure patient portal before your first visit.
- 4Have your evaluation. A 2-hour comprehensive evaluation, in person in King of Prussia or in Society Hill, Philadelphia, or by telehealth. It is the first part of your New Patient Package.
- 5Begin follow-up. Your first 50-minute follow-up, included in the package, begins our work together, and your written treatment plan follows. From there we agree on a schedule that fits what you are working on.
Session Types
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
A 2-hour evaluation designed to understand the full picture. Your history, your goals, and a clear plan forward. Part of the New Patient Package.
Integrated Therapy and Medication
Sessions that combine psychotherapy, medication management, and practical guidance in the same visit.
Family and Support Sessions
For established patients who want to include partners or family members to improve understanding, communication, and support.
Working with Your Therapist
My sessions combine medication management and therapy. Many of my patients also have their own therapist, and I work closely with that therapist, coordinating directly so care stays aligned. My role is to support that relationship, not replace it.
The Evaluation in Detail
Your care begins with a thorough assessment. The evaluation is designed to understand both your current concerns and the broader context of your life. During this appointment we will:
- Review your mental health history, medical background, and current concerns
- Explore relevant life experiences, relationships, and developmental factors
- Identify beliefs and patterns that may be contributing to what you are experiencing
- Discuss your goals and priorities for treatment
- Begin building a treatment plan together
By the end of your evaluation and follow-up, you should have an explanation that makes sense of what you have been experiencing and a plan you agree with.
Your New Patient Package
Every new patient begins with the New Patient Package:
- A 2-hour psychiatric evaluation, in person or by telehealth. Time to understand the full picture, not just a list of symptoms.
- A 50-minute follow-up session to begin our work together incorporating personalized treatment modalities with medication management to provide whole-person care.
- A personalized written treatment plan delivered to your secure patient portal after your follow-up appointment. Your plan outlines your goals, the areas we’ll work on together, individualized treatment recommendations that may include medication and therapeutic approaches, and practical strategies to support each dimension of your well-being.
The follow-up session and written treatment plan are included with your evaluation at no additional cost. We will go over the fee on your free 15-minute intro call.
Two Evaluation Types
- Individual. For adults who prefer a private evaluation.
- Collaborative. For adults and adolescents 14 and older who would like a trusted person involved in part of the evaluation. A partner, parent, or close family member can add useful perspective on life experiences, relationship dynamics, and day-to-day functioning.
Follow-Up Appointments in Detail
Follow-up appointments are long enough to combine medication management with psychotherapy. They are shaped by what you need at the time, and may include the following.
- Medication reviewIf you are taking medication, we review how it is working and adjust when appropriate. If you are considering medication for the first time, we discuss the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives. Medication may be recommended, and the decision is always made together.
- PsychotherapyDrawing on several therapeutic approaches, we look at how early experiences, family dynamics, culture, and personal beliefs shape your thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The goal is insight you can use, along with practical strategies for change.
- LifestyleSleep, nutrition, physical activity, mindfulness, organization, and routine all affect mental health. We address them when they are relevant to your goals.
- Identity and directionFor many people, treatment includes developing a clearer sense of who they are. We look at how past experiences and roles have shaped you, and work toward a way of living that feels more stable and more your own.
Family and Support Sessions in Detail
Family sessions are available to established patients who would like to include a partner, parent, sibling, adult child, or close friend in part of their care. I guide a structured conversation so that everyone can share their perspective, understand each other better, and find practical ways to support treatment. These sessions can help to:
- Improve communication and reduce misunderstandings
- Address relationship dynamics that are adding to distress
- Help the people close to you understand what you need
- Agree on constructive ways for them to offer support
What You Can Expect
- A warm, confidential, and nonjudgmental setting. A respectful space where you can speak openly.
- Respect for your preferences, culture, and lived experience. Your background, identity, and values are part of your care.
- Clear goals and a plan you understand. We build the treatment plan together, and you will know the reasoning behind it.
- Something to work on between sessions. Tools, reflections, and practices that carry the work into your week.
- Regular review. We check progress as we go and adjust the plan as your needs change.
In Person and By Telehealth
In-person appointments are at our King of Prussia office (150 S Warner Rd, Suite 130, King of Prussia, PA 19406) and our Society Hill office (401 S 2nd St, Suite 301, Philadelphia, PA 19147). Telehealth appointments are available to people located in Pennsylvania, New York, or Massachusetts at the time of the visit, through a secure video platform.
Between Appointments
Scheduling, non-urgent questions, and refill requests go through the secure patient portal and are answered during business hours. This is usually the fastest way to reach me. You may also call the business number at 610-CARE-888 and leave a message. The patient portal and voicemail box are not monitored for emergencies. If you have an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
